What a glorious day today!  We saw a whole pod of dolphins swimming along the coast while out running this a.m.  We started at 6am (there were 5 of us ladies) and ran along the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway).  Luckily we got finished prior to the March of Dimes walk event.  The sun is coming up a little earlier these days and so we could even see each other at the start of our run.  I am still struggling with this respiratory infection.  My doc said if it persists I should get antibiotics.  Turns out it, may not be viral.  Hacking while running is the worst!

I've found I really like Gu2O while running.  I was introduced to it while running the Palm Springs Half this year.  It is not as sweet at the Gu gel, my old preference, and sits well in my stomach.  I did use a Gu gel on this run but only half of it.  I like the lemon-lime flavor the best.  I'm still learning how to balance using energy boosters during long runs.  I have a hard time pacing when to take it and what is too much, too little, etc.  In hindsight I should've used a Gu during last wknd's run but opted not to b/c I thought the Gu2O would do the trick.  Today I was dragging, I'm thinking b/c of the cold, and found using the gel helped give me a kick on both "hills" we have to run on the route.

Pre-run I had an Isagenix shake w/fresh strawberries and half of a mini-bagel with Better-n-Peanut Butter from Trader Joes.  I felt this was possibly my best pre-run b'fast I've ever had.  A little shared fact about me is that I throw up after every half marathon.  I don't do that anymore with this b'fast mix...yeah!!  It's so embarrassing to have a great race and then head to the nearest trash can and throw up.  On that note, I'm off to make dinner for the kids now!  Have a great night!

Cross trained today in prep for this wknd's 10 miler.  I had to use a treadmill (ick!) b/c my son's on spring break and I needed to use my gym's kid's care.  It worked out well b/c I weightlifted and ended up burning nearly 600 calories in an hour.  Yeah!

I was browsing a google search for "how to train to qualify for Boston marathon".  The results were scary.  Do you really need to run 10 mi/day 6x's/wk?  The wknd long runs grow to become 20 milers every wknd...wow!  My training buddy says the Sacramento marathon is a great one to qualify on.  Any thoughts?

I also got a baseline physical yesterday and am going to get blood work done today.  This will help me see what I'm working with as I begin really training in earnest.

Thanks for all of the comments, pls keep them coming.  You all seem like a great group to know while I embark on this adventure.

Today's workout was tough.  I'm recovering from a viral upper-respiratory infection.  Winds were gusting upwards of 25-30mph into my face and I only had childcare for 1.5 hrs.  Needed to workout, shower, dress & pick up my son who was 20 mins away from my house.  I'm preparing to run 10 mi on Sat at 9min/mi pace again.  Last Sat was the first time I've run that far at that pace.

I have begun telling people about potentially qualifying for Boston...this means I'm on the hook to really do it now!  Yikes & Yeah!

Today was a 1-day cleanse (Isagenix), which is why my caloric intake is so low.  I cross-trained today - ran 3.1 at an 8:56min/mi pace and then weight-lifted for an hr.  I feet great.  I'm always surprised at how much energy I have on my cleanse days.

My program is a 30-day cleanse.  The first 9 days is comprised of 3 cleanse days (~480cals/day) and then 1200-1500 cals/day the balance 6 days.  I lost 5 lbs on the cleanse and feel very refreshed and healthy again.  For the remaining 3 wks I cleanse 1 day/wk and then drink a meal replacement shake 1x per day.  After this 30 days I plan to increase my daily caloric intake to 1650cals/day possibly more.  I recently found out my RMR is 1800cals.  However, I'd like to lose another 20-25lbs before I begin training to qualify for Boston.  I'm currently 5' 8" and 22% body fat.  I'd like to get that down a little as well.  I'm lucky to have a great nutritionist and a super training buddy.  My training bud has run Boston with her husband before and her family has a long history of Ironman, so I feel like I'm in good hands.
